I've been painting a lot of trees this summer. I find that I'm drawn to the way each one is so unique and has it's own personality. Such expressive gestures and commanding presence. On my walks I like to think about what the trees around me have witnessed in their lifetimes. Most have been alive much longer than their human neighbors. They stand strong and resilient, watching the years and events pass by like a slow-motion film--adapting and persevering through many storms. We are so fortunate to have such wonderful natural role-models. (For a beautiful article about one man's unique pen-and-ink renderings of trees, click here).

Gigi, you really captured the structure of this beautiful tree. Looking at it makes you feel grounded and strong-perfect for today (Nov.3rd).
Beautiful work. Most people focus on the foliage and the trunk is the afterthought but you did the opposite and it’s so much more interesting.
